I started as a young lad catching what I considered at the time to be huge perch from the Grand Union Canal in Watford , perch of 3lb + where common place in the early sixties and thank goodness they are now back with us .I moved to Sunbury on Thames and fished for big bags of roach on the Thames with hemp at Chertsey with my father who was a keen angler , until one day by accident we left all our rods at the side of the road ,and drove off !! and that was fishing over for quite a number of years .
Moved to Bristol in the early seventies and was introduce to the Bristol Avon . fished a few open matches and joined Bristol PSV angling and fished various commercials and river matches with various degrees of success but my commitment remained constant, I just loved the whole match scene , fishing both the commercial house and winter leagues on the Bristol Avon and Kennet and Avon ,the Frome at Farleigh Hungerford in the police series and other open matches when and wherever I can !!
River fishing being my main passion I love fishing in Ireland on the Shannon , every year with a great friend of mine Dave Micklewright and a bunch of other guys known as the Shavers we travel to the emerald Isle, I managed my personal best of 366lb taken on a brilliant day on lough Dergh (Shavers rules catch less than 20lb of fish a day you can’t shave)
Well Fishing for the Cardiff Nomads will be a real privileged and I hope I can repay all the support Clive has given me ,thanks again for the invite to fish for such a great team !
Oh the picture ! yes that’s me with the front end of a 149lb cat fish I caught on the Ebro in2010 ,and that got me free drinks all evening in an Irish bar in Boston USA but that’s a fisherman’s tale for another day !
