I took up fishing age 13 and spent a few years at it until the lure of women and partying came along as well as me joining the Armed forces in 2001 I of sort moved away from the sport. 2004 was when I started to get back into it in a big way and spent 4 weeks solid at it due to being injured in Iraq and being flown back early. With the wife at work I soon got bored sat around the house, with my younger brother fishing regularly I thought I would give it another go so ended up down at the local lake. It was a decision I look back at now and was a blessing in disguise.
Having spent most of my time in the midlands commercial match scene it wasn’t until I took my fishing south (where I’m based) before I started fishing the odd open match on the commercials. This continued for a few years fishing in the south as well as the midlands making a name for myself getting to know certain lakes and asking a hell of a lot of questions from what I regard some quality anglers. After a few years of catching carp I needed more of a challenge and looked towards the K&A canal, River Thames, Bristol Avon and more natural venues to keep me entertained and challenged.
This turned out to be a learning massive learning curve moving from the commercial scene where I had fished near enough all the time other than a few sessions on the river soar and the Ashby Canal. Still the enjoyment was there and I have persevered to where I am now and I believe this has made me a better all-round better angler, still I will add that I’m still learning.
Looking at my fishing now I am as keen as ever fishing both natural and commercial venues on a weekly basis competing against some of the best around and that’s what I thrive on. I fish as an individual for Zebco Browning and as well as fished for numerous teams representing the British Army and Pewsey PMG in the past and currently fish for the Royal Artillery as well as the Nomads.
I have had successful results on the match scene with numerous wins under my belt fishing naturals and commercial venues also framing in the likes of Fish O Mania, Barston Masters, Sensas commercial House league and the North Wessex Winter league. I have also won the Army Angling Federation Group 3 league.
If I had to offer any advice to anyone it would be keep it simple and fish to your strengths.
